Lift Every Voice and Sing was originally a poem written by James Weldon Johnson, and was set to music by his brother John Rosamund Johnson. The song is often referred to as the "Negro National Anthem," and quickly became a way for African Americans to demonstrate their patriotism and hope for the future. This arrangement follows the traditional setting, accompanied by a concert band.
